Welcome! The Hunt-A-Swap story has a bit of humor involved so have a chuckle or two at my expense as you read on...
I grew up in the Midwest, in a small farming community. My father was a policeman and television repairman. My mother worked and was a homemaker too, so I come from a "working family." I've worked at various jobs since leaving high school, but I've worked for a major chemical company in the US since the mid 1980's and continue to do so.
I have been an outdoors sportsman since I was a teenager, thanks to my father, who instilled in me the love of the outdoors. He started me off with fishing, small game hunting, and later whitetail deer hunting. Through the years I became interested in other outdoor activities ranging from camping to ice fishing.
As sportsman, we tend to acquire quite a few "toys" as the saying goes, and all that "gear" accumulates. In early 2005, at forty eight years old I had acquired quite a few "toys," and a fiancée! This was my and my future bride's first marriage, and at our ages, boy did we have "stuff"! Upon my new bride's arrival, I came to realize that everything "I" owned had to be moved to the garage, basement, barn, or shed! So, in gathering up all my "stuff" I proceeded to put things (according to my wife) in their "proper" place, and in doing so, I realized two things, just how spread out everything was, and how much outdoor equipment I truly had. I decided to gather up all that gear and find one location for it, and as I set about accomplishing that task I realized there was a bunch of it I no longer used, or NEVER used. Some of this equipment was purchased and never even taken out of the package, and some of it had not been used in years (ice fishing gear before moving south, and camping gear before sore backs!) but most of it was in GREAT condition.
What was I to do with all this "STUFF"? I'd go broke trying to list these items in the local newspaper want-ads, and I don't have the time to take these items to a "flea market" just to sit all day long and receive fifty cents or a dollar for an item. I thought of all of this, and began thinking of how many sportsmen are in the same boat as I was. We have these items we no longer use for one reason or another, and maybe there's someone who's got something I could use, and we could swap. And that's how Hunt-A-Swap popped into my head and came to be, its here for people like you and I, who have all these things we no longer use, but we know someone out there would love to have, and may have some item we could use.
Have you stopped camping and no longer need that camp stove, but have taken up turkey hunting and need a box call? Or maybe you no longer need that fly rod, but are looking for a bass fishing reel. Whatever the reason, as outdoor sportsmen, we all stop using perfectly good gear, and more times than not we're looking for an item also. So, stop by Hunt-A-Swap and take a look around. I know I will be, I've got this Jo-Jan Multi-Fletcher I'd be willing to swap for a ...
